Assistant Professor

 

Description:

The School of Engineering at the University of Warwick is looking to recruit an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the field of Measurement or Precision Engineering. The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong experimental focus but who may also utilize simulation to support their experimental work. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in precision engineering, metrology, solid mechanics (including micro/nanomechanics), quantum techniques, measurement, instrumentation, and non-destructive testing.

The appointed individual will complement the current activities within the Measurement Group in the Mechanical, Materials, and Process Engineering (MMP) Stream or contribute to establishing new activities that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. They will be expected to contribute to research excellence and teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead high-quality research in Measurement or Precision Engineering.
  • Secure substantial external research funding and publish top-tier journal papers.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, developing innovative teaching methods.
  • Engage with higher education pedagogy and embrace changes in teaching technologies.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and link research to the University’s Research Technology Platforms.
  • Provide leadership within the School of Engineering and contribute to its multidisciplinary research environment.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Measurement, Precision Engineering, or related discipline.
  • For Assistant Professor: Capability to establish an independent research group with international potential.
  • For Associate Professor: Established research activity with substantial funding and teaching experience.
  • Strong research vision, with the ability to make a significant impact in the field.
  • Teaching experience and willingness to develop innovative teaching strategies.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of research clusters and interdisciplinary collaboration.
