Assistant Engineer

 

Description:

The role will initially be a day role working Monday to Friday to complete initial training and obtain your first authorisation as Senior Authorised Person Electrical & Mechanical. After no more than 12 months you will then commence working a 12-hour shift pattern, averaging 37 hours per week. You will work within the Central Control Room (CCR) and be responsible for the monitoring, control and compliant operation of an Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor and associated turbo-generator.
 

  • Monitor and control of all station plan from the Station’s Central Control Room (CCR).
  • Perform a Plant Engineer function and providing immediate operational advice to CCR staff and Operate Technicians during normal operations, fault investigations and recovery.
  • Perform reactor and/or conventional plant operations.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis.
  • Responsible for the application of Safety Rules to allow plant maintenance to take place.
  • Apply conservative decision-making techniques and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Show a solid understanding of plant operation, design, and theory (comprehensive training will be provided)
     

Who You Are…

The skills and experiences listed below are necessary to be suitable for the role:
 

  • As a minimum, we will require you to hold a HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent to be suitable for this role.
  • Previous experience working in a heavy process environment in Operations and/or an Engineering role with supporting qualifications.
  • A proven track record of working to demanding safety standards.
  • A good understanding of risk assessment processes in relation to setting people to work.
  • A proven ability to assess dynamic situations, prioritise actions and direct personal accordingly.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • A positive attitude towards supporting continuous improvement.
  • Sound and demonstrable commercial awareness.
  • Good level of computer literacy i.e., able to use Word, Excel and bespoke systems.
  • Strong understanding of general literacy i.e., able to read and follow written process instructions and complete paperwork accurately.
  • A flexible approach to work/duties and willing to undertake necessary training programme.
  • Able to work as part of a small team and cross functionally with other departments.
