SSEN Transmission owns and operates the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland, transporting energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, providing a safe and reliable supply of electricity to the communities it serves. Home to some of the UK's greatest resources of renewable energy, SSEN Transmission is playing a critical role in the transition to a low carbon future, developing, building, maintaining and operating a network for net zero.

Working as part of a small team, this role has a strong emphasis on financial control, with an emphasis on all aspects of balance sheet controls.

This is a varied, flexible, and challenging role with primary responsibilities amongst the following:

  • Preparation of general ledger reconciliations, including monthly Balance Sheet control accounts. Enhance Balance Sheet reporting and analysis to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review Inter-company balances and provide detailed transactional analysis.
  • Provide indirect cost reporting for various areas of the Transmission business, including development of reports, and providing variance analysis & commentary. Support the team with the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Work with the wider Transmission team to assist in embedding and recording robust documentation controls for various Finance processes and procedures.
  • Assist with Half Year and Year End Reporting, including involvement in Statutory financial statements preparation, and subsequent liaison with External Audit.
  • Support the Transmission Accountant and Finance Manager with month-end processes and posting of journal entries.
  • Report to Transmission senior management and the wider SSE Group on aspects relevant to the role.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would like you to be:

  • Part-qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA); consideration may also be given to candidates who have not started professional qualifications.
  • Be pro-active and use initiative whilst always providing a high degree of support and patience when dealing with all stakeholders.
  • Willing to undertake a varied and challenging role and to work flexibly as an important part of a small team.
  • Able to communicate messages clearly to different internal and external stakeholders conveying messages which are at times complex.
  • Competent IT skills – especially MS Excel. Experience with Power BI reporting would also be advantageous.
  • Able to work to tight timescales, at times under pressure and yet deliver to high standards.
