We are looking for GCSE/A-Levels academic tutors in all subjects, to support students who are aiming to enter top universities in the UK. Our students include those who are currently studying in mainstream, independent schools and private candidates.
Tutors who work with Merton College London are expected to be inspiring individuals, with a passion for their subject and a love for learning.
Job Description:
- Deliver 1v1 subject-specific tuition programmes
- Adapt tutoring activities, and design assignments and related materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing course objectives in assigned A-Levels/GCSE subjects
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, research and other academic tasks
- Communicate with Lead Teachers and Supervisor in evaluating students’ progress
- Offer feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate
- Create a professional and welcoming environment by modelling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum contents and qualification frameworks regarding the subjects taught
- Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skill and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills
- Utilise feedback and reflection to improve practice
Person specification
- A strong academic record (minimum degree level in the subject of tuition)
- Excellent subject knowledge and good understanding of GCSE/A-Levels exams of major exam boards
- Proven track record of excellent students’ GCSE/A-Levels results
- Professional experience preparing lessons and providing personalised instruction
- Theoretical and practical understanding of the subject to be taught
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback
- Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance using effective strategies
- Must have the right to work and live in the UK
- Being engaging and inspiring whilst being diligent, organised, and reliable
- Chinese speaking and written skills or communicative level Chinese as desirable
